Long exposures

Finding myself at the seaside on Saturday with all my camera gear except for my ND filter, I decided to treat myself and upgrade from a couple of relatively cheap ND filters and buy into the Lee Filters system. Armed with my big stopper I set out to try it out.

I am reevaluating my ideas now for this term’s project and have been thinking about light transformation as a topic.

When looking at light transformation I might research light impact on objects and surfaces, a picture I took on my recent holiday to Croatia has also made me think about this topic and I have thought back to research I did early in term 1 The light is on. I think this picture of rain on the water looks like baco foil.

  1. love this pictures! my cheap ND filter fell apart in my hand last time I used it – so I need to upgrade. is yours a single filter or a set of filters? would you recommend it?

  2. Thanks 🙂 I bought the foundation kit (http://www.leefilters.com/index.php/camera/system) the wide angle adaptor ring (77mm for my 18-35mm Nikon lens), (http://www.leefilters.com/index.php/camera-directory/camera-dir-list/category/wideangle-rings), plus the big stopper filter,(http://www.leefilters.com/index.php/camera/bigstopper). Not cheap, but I think tonally these first test pictures are better, plus colour cast is not so distorted. The kit allows you to put many filters today, so you can get to really, really long exposure times. These exposures were 3 to 4 minutes, it was one of those days where it was cloudy but then moments of brilliant sunshine.
